Enhancements in the Field of SolidWorks plastics for better Product

Plastic business has been quite possibly the most productive plastic assembling ventures in the course of recent years. With more than a huge number of plastic parts  created, alongside an income of more than billions of dollars consistently, the plastic parts manufacturing  business has helped to become one of the world's greatest and most productive enterprises. Injection Molding  has been quite possibly the most inventive embellishment techniques, and has helped produce the present age of value toys. Considering that, this is what you need to think about multi color infusion.

                                                             Fig:1

When using an injection molding system to produce plastic components and products, one color per part is usually injected at a time. Although this process is still used in many manufacturing plants around the world, it can be inefficient, particularly in the plastic  industry, which needs to produce parts in a variety of colors.

Multi-color plastic injection molding is useful in this situation. Another collection of plastic pellets were applied to the machine to add another color that would be integrated into the same plastic mold. Some of these multi-color plastic injection molding machines can process at least two coolers at once, with the ability to add more if necessary. Many colors are injected into a single mold  is a delicate process that requires proper sequencing in order to not mix with the primary color.

The techniques that can be used for creating multi color plastics parts can be by over Molding or by applying a A-B-A sequence of different material with a defined delay time for manufacturing .

What is Over Molding?

Over molding is a technique that involves combining two or more plastic or elastomer materials to create a single component. The base layer component is
molded first, then the additional plastic layer(s) are molded over and around the original part during the plastic over molding procedure. To achieve a certain texture or appearance, one or more plastic resins can be used, depending on material compatibility.

                                                             Fig:2

Over molding is used in a variety of industries, including medical, aerospace, and military. A toothbrush with a rigid frame and rubberized grips on the handle as shown in the above Fig:2 is a typical example of injection over molding. Different over molding material choices are often used to build versatile areas on rigid parts or to add color contrast for aesthetics. The following are some of the advantages of plastic over molding:

  • Improve grip and ergonomics
  • Provide electrical insulation
  • Create a waterproof seal
  • Dampen vibrations or absorb sound

Since the second piece is molded directly onto the original component rather than needing to produce the two parts individually and then assemble them, plastic over molding will help minimize manufacturing time. Over molding is also a complicated process that necessitates the strictest of tolerances.

With SolidWorks plastics, we can know how the skin and the core material are been distributed in the design, the core material can be an recycled material, so that the cost for material is reduced without compromising the strength and the skin helps to provide an over cover on the core material, which provides aesthetic look of the design.

With the resent development in all the fields of analysis, there are few  new enhancement in the SolidWorks Plastics 2021, which takes us to the real time

scenario situation. From now onwards, an injection process can have one or more injection units as shown in the Fig:3, uses two injection units for two polymer materials.

As we discussed previously, the toy industry uses different colour plastic material to make toys, so each colour part cannot be assembled, as it is time consuming and not cost effective as we have to use other binding agents to attach them. With the new enhancement in SolidWorks Plastics 2021 we can define maximum of 6 different materials in the Over Molding process as shown in the Fig:4, so that we can predict how the flow is happening on the existed material which is previously injected.

                                                      Fig:4

Till now we have seen how many material types can be used and also different injection unit creation. As we already discussed  previously about the toys industry, in the Co - injection Process with the new enhancement in SolidWorks Plastics 2021, we can specify a A-B-A Sequence as shown in the Fig:5 between injections of the first and second materials. With  this sequence and the delay time we can know the complete Product cycle(Flow +pack+ wrap) for the complete design, these sequence can be same material with different color sequence and also delay time can be given after the each sequence.

With all these enhancements in the SolidWorks Plastics 2021, we can bring a better product output to the market, by reducing the number of trails for creating the product and the costly mould rework can be eliminated which is costly and time consuming.
