How Does the 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange Add-in Simplify SOLIDWORKS Data Sharing?

 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange Addin

The 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange add-in enables SOLIDWORKS users to securely access and work with content packages from 3DEXPERIENCE sources, such as the Design with SOLIDWORKS app. Users can effortlessly open these packages, make necessary modifications to the files, and then return the updated content back to the original 3DEXPERIENCE source—ensuring a smooth and integrated workflow.

SOLIDWORKS Package

  • A SOLIDWORKS Package File uses the “.sldpkg” extension and can be imported using any of the following products:

    • SOLIDWORKS Connected (3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS)

    • Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS

    • SOLIDWORKS with the free 3DEXPERIENCE Exchange add-in

  • This package contains all the necessary components to open the packaged assembly and keeps track of any modifications made to the included files

Exporting SOLIDWORKS Data from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
  • First check whether the “3DEXPERIENCE Exchange” add-in is enabled.

    3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  • 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  • Select the package file and click Import. Now the working folder with the default location on your PC will be automatically created:
    C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\3DEXPERIENCE_Workspace

  • Then files are open on the task pane and you can open the file by right-clicking and editing the particular components with the edit access provided while exporting from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

  • The edited components show as Modified status

    3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  • If you are done editing the files, be sure to save any files that were modified. They will be saved into the local working folder specified

  • When you complete the work and need to send the modified file to the original sender, you need to export the package again and send that modified package.
