How Can Selective Open in 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Speed Up Your Workflow?

Speed Up Your Workflow with Selective Open in 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS

If you're someone who regularly works with large and complex assemblies in SOLIDWORKS, you’ve probably faced the dreaded “loading... please wait” screen that seems to take forever. But what if we told you there’s a smarter way?
Introducing Selective Open – a practical feature inside 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS that helps you open only the parts you actually need.
Let’s break it down in simple terms.

What Is Selective Open?
Think of Selective Open like picking only the files you need from a packed folder. Instead of loading the entire 1GB assembly, you get to choose what parts or subassemblies you want to open.
Whether you’re just reviewing a frame, updating a bracket, or checking a single motor, this feature helps you load faster, work smoother, and save system resources.

Where Can You Find It?
When working with files in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

1. Select the CAD file from either 3DSpace or Bookmark editor > open with Product Explorer.
2. Once the Product Structure Explorer app is opened, In Tools tab select Filter.

What You Can Actually Do with It

Imagine you’re opening a machine layout with 5,000 parts. But you only need to update the conveyor section.

With Selective Open, you:

• Open just the conveyor parts
• Skip structural frames, fasteners, electricals
• Make your changes and save – all in a fraction of the usual time

Summary

In a high-paced design environment, every second counts.

Selective Open is a small but powerful feature that can significantly boost your efficiency, especially when working on large assemblies from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

So next time you open a large file, don’t just click “Open” — click “Filter” with Selective Open!
