How Do You Add Custom Toolbox Components to the SOLIDWORKS Toolbox Library?

Nowadays, many companies use their own standard components instead of using the default SOLIDWORKS standard components. In that one common challenge is that they are often unable to use their custom toolbox components in the same way as the SOLIDWORKS standard toolbox components. In this blog, we will explain how to configure your own toolbox components and integrate them into the SOLIDWORKS Toolbox library.

STEP:1 Open your customized toolbox component. If you have multiple sizes within the same toolbox component, create configurations for each size. Refer the image.

STEP:2 Open the Design Library drop-down toolbox folder.

  1. Right-click on any standard, such as ANSI or IS, and select Configure. (or)
  2. Options > System Options > Hole Wizard/Toolbox > Configure

STEP:3 By using the second method, the Toolbox Settings Wizard will open. In the wizard, five options are available.

  1. Hole Wizard
  2. Customize your hardware Select sizes and options Create custom properties Add part numbers
  3. Define user settings
  4. Set permissions
  5. Configure Smart Fasteners

Then Click Customize your hardware it will navigate to your toolbox standard.

By using 1st method, it will directly navigate to your toolbox standard.

STEP:4 All your standard Toolbox components are listed here. Right-click on Toolbox Standards and select Create New Folder. Enter a folder name of your choice.

STEP:5 Then, right-click on your folder and select Add File. The File Explorer will open—navigate to your desired file and click Open. The file will be added to your Toolbox components.

When you create a folder or add a file to the Toolbox, it will also make a copy in the default standard components location on the C drive. For example, if your original standard components are stored in Standard Component on the D drive, adding them to the Toolbox Settings Wizard will create a copy in the C drive.

After adding the file, there is no link between the original file location and the SOLIDWORKS default standard component file location. SOLIDWORKS will use the copied file from the default location.

STEP:6 Now you can easily drag and drop from your design library in toolbox components. For identification purpose SOLIDWORKS will show the mark for your customized toolbox components.
