SOLIDWORKS Drawings 2026 Updates: Dimensions, Annotations, and Auto Drawing Tools

SOLIDWORKS Drawings 2026 introduces several enhancements aimed at improving clarity, accuracy, and efficiency in 2D documentation. From smarter dimension handling and cleaner annotation alignment to automated drawing creation and improved tolerance symbols, these updates help designers create professional, easy-to-read drawings with less manual effort.

Adding Breaks to Dimension Lines around Dimension Text

You can create gaps in dimension lines to keep them from covering or overlapping the dimension text.

How to add breaks to dimension lines (so the text doesn’t overlap):

·        Right-click on the dimension line that crosses over the text.

·        Click “Add Dimension Break.”

Optional:

·        To remove the break later, right-click and choose “Remove Dimension Breaks.”

·        To change or adjust the break, right-click and choose “Update Dimension Break.”

Automatically Generating Drawings (BETA): Section Views and Hole Callouts

3DEXPERIENCE® users can automatically create drawings (BETA) with extra details like section views and hole notes.

Benefits:
This feature saves time and reduces mistakes by doing repetitive drawing tasks automatically.

Auto-Generate Drawings (BETA) can automatically create:

  • Section views – showing inside features and their dimensions.
  • Hole callouts – adding hole information for imported models (like STEP files).

Specifying Text and Symbols in Geometric Tolerance Symbol Ranges

You can include things like:

  • Degree (°), minute (), and second () symbols
  • Letters or other text and symbols
  • Text boxes in the second part of the feature control frame.

Benefits:

  • Clearer communicationYou can include extra text, letters, or symbols to make easier to understand.
  • More precise documentation: Adding degree, minute, and second symbols helps define accurate angular tolerances.

Using Magnetic Lines to Align Annotations

You can use magnetic lines in SOLIDWORKS to neatly line up annotations like notes, weld symbols, geometric tolerances, surface finish symbols, and revision symbols. This helps make your drawing look cleaner and more organized.

Benefits:

  • Neater drawings: Magnetic lines keep all your annotations perfectly aligned, making the drawing look clean and professional.
  • Easy to update: When you move one annotation, others attached to the magnetic line move with it, keeping everything organized.

Using Indicators with Surface Finish Symbols

Use indicators to place the surface finish symbol when inserting it in SOLIDWORKS. You can add parallel and perpendicular tolerance types, as well as datum references.

Benefits:

Reduced errors in surface-finish callouts
Because you’re guided through the placement (via indicator selection) and can define datum references, there’s less chance of placing the wrong symbol orientation or missing the datum, which often cause quality/inspection issues.

Using Magnetic Lines to Align Annotations

With better control over dimensions, smarter annotation alignment, automated views, and improved surface finish and tolerance tools, users can create cleaner, more reliable drawings that are easier to understand and manufacture.
