WHAT’S NEW IN SOLIDWORKS 2026: Configurations/ Display States
WHAT’S NEW IN SOLIDWORKS 2026: Improved Usability for Configuration and Display StateTables
Managing configurations and display states is a key part of design variation and visualization in SOLIDWORKS. In SOLIDWORKS 2026, the usability of both Configuration Tables and Display State Tables has been significantly refined, making them easier to work with, more responsive, and better aligned with user intent.
Configuration Table Improvements
Configuration Tables allow users to control feature suppression, component states, and dimension variations directly within the model. The 2026 update streamlines how these tables behave when editing and managing components.
|
Area |
Improvement |
|
Suppress
and Fixed columns |
When you double-click a component in the graphics
area to add it to the configuration table, the Suppress and Fixed
columns are now added only when necessary, keeping the table clean and
uncluttered. |
|
Removing
columns |
You
can now remove columns directly by right-clicking on the column header
and selecting Delete. |
|
Hiding
and showing columns |
A new drop-down list lets you control the
visibility of the Fixed column, allowing you to view only the data
relevant to your current task. |
These refinements help users manage configurations faster, with fewer manual adjustments to the table structure.
Display State Table Improvements
Display State Tables, which control how components are shown (visible, hidden, transparent, etc.), also see a major usability boost in SOLIDWORKS 2026. The focus here is on a smoother, more readable interface.
|
Area |
Improvement |
|
Column width |
Columns are now narrower, and long text automatically wraps, improving visibility and readability. |
|
Table display |
Table flickering during edits or updates has been eliminated, providing a much smoother experience. |
|
Resizing |
The Parameters column, along with others, can now be resized, and your changes persist after resizing. |
|
Check boxes |
Selecting and clearing check boxes responds more quickly and reliably. |
|
Minimum overall size |
Tables and columns maintain a minimum size so that all content is visible without cutting off information. |
|
Managing rows |
You can now add or remove reference display state rows directly from a drop-down list, giving more control over how display states are organized. |
Benefits
· Cleaner, More Organized Tables: Only necessary columns appear, reducing clutter.
· Improved Efficiency: Faster control over display and configuration management.
· Better Visual Experience: Optimized layouts, no flickering, and clear column resizing improve usability.
· Enhanced Control: Direct actions like deleting, hiding, or resizing columns make table management much more intuitive.
With these updates, SOLIDWORKS 2026 makes managing configurations and display states smoother than ever. The new refinements not only save time but also make the interface more responsive and predictable, helping you stay focused on design decisions rather than interface adjustments
Splitting
Out Configurations into Individual Files
SOLIDWORKS 2025 introduces a powerful new workflow enhancement that gives users more flexibility when managing configurations. You can now split all configurations in a part or assembly into separate, individual files, each saved independently, while maintaining the same geometry and references.
What This Feature Does
In designs where multiple configurations exist (for example, size variations, optional features, or design alternatives), all those configurations traditionally existed within a single file.
Now, you can split those configurations into multiple standalone files, each representing one configuration. This provides more control over data management, sharing, and performance, especially for large assemblies or when collaborating with others.
How to Split Configurations
1. Open a part or assembly that has multiple configurations.
2. In the ConfigurationManager, right-click either:
o The file name at the top of the tree, or
o Any configuration in the tree.
Then, click Split Configurations.
3. In the Split Configurations as New Files dialog box, specify options such as:
o Update where used: Updates all references in assemblies or drawings to point to the new, individual files.
o Where used: Lists open assemblies or drawings that currently reference the original file.
o File Locations: Lets you choose where to save and manage the split files.
o Update for 3DEXPERIENCE Compatibility: Creates single physical product files suitable for 3DEXPERIENCE integration.
4. Click Save — SOLIDWORKS automatically creates new files in the same directory as the original.
Each new file follows a clear naming convention:
<OriginalName>.<ConfigurationName>.SLDPRTor .SLDASM
For example:BasePart.LongHandle.SLDPRT
Benefits
· Simplified File Management: Each configuration becomes its own file, making it easier to share or archive individual versions.
· Performance Boost: Smaller, single-configuration files open and rebuild faster than multi-configuration files.
· Improved Collaboration: Teams can work on separate configurations independently without interfering with one another.
· 3DEXPERIENCE Ready: Perfectly aligns with the platform’s single physical product file approach for better compatibility and version control.
The new Split Configurations feature gives you more flexibility and control over how configurations are managed and shared. Whether you’re working locally or in the cloud, this functionality streamlines collaboration, enhances performance, and supports a more modular design approach.
